Real Madrid have offered Eduardo Camavinga to Manchester City, with direct contact between the two clubs held in the past 24 hours, according to a report from Marca’s Matteo Moretto.
The France international has fallen out of favour under new Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, who is understood to have given the go-ahead for a sale this summer. City are now weighing up the proposal as Enzo Maresca looks to reshape his midfield for the coming season.
The 23-year-old missed out on France’s World Cup squad after a dip in form over the past year, but remains highly regarded across the Premier League for his physicality and energy in midfield. He is understood to be capable of playing as a central pivot, a box-to-box option, or even at left-back if required.
City’s need in that area of the pitch has grown since Bernardo Silva’s free transfer to the Bernabeu, and with Rodri, Mateo Kovacic and Nico Gonzalez all carrying question marks over their availability heading into pre-season, a further midfield addition would not come as a surprise. It comes alongside City’s move for Elliot Anderson, with the Nottingham Forest midfielder set to arrive in a club-record deal.
Talks between the two clubs are said to be at an early stage, with no figures yet discussed publicly. Marca reports that Real Madrid are keen to move quickly given Camavinga’s value is unlikely to hold at its current level much longer.
City’s squad is due to report for pre-season on 20 July, ahead of a summer tour of Hong Kong and South Korea.
