Sandro Tonali Manchester City Enquiry Puts Newcastle’s £100m Valuation Back In Focus

Manchester City have reportedly made fresh enquiries for Sandro Tonali, putting Newcastle United’s £100million valuation back in focus as Tottenham wait on a follow-up bid.

The Italy midfielder has already been chased by Spurs this summer, but City’s renewed interest gives Enzo Maresca another major midfield decision after the club’s big-money move for Elliot Anderson.

Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder reports that Manchester City have made fresh enquiries for Tonali, with Tottenham yet to return with a follow-up offer after Newcastle rejected an £80million bid. The report adds that Newcastle want closer to £100million for the former AC Milan midfielder.

That makes this more than a simple market check. City are already reshaping their midfield, and Tonali would represent a different kind of control signing for Maresca.

Read Man City has already covered how City considered Tonali after Newcastle rejected Tottenham’s bid, but fresh enquiries suggest the conversation has not gone away.

Tonali Gives Manchester City A Different Midfield Option

City’s midfield rebuild has already moved quickly. Elliot Anderson has passed his Manchester City medical ahead of a £116million move, giving Maresca a powerful new option for the next cycle.

Tonali would not simply duplicate that profile. He is more of a rhythm-setter and tempo controller, with the defensive intensity to help City manage transitions before games become stretched.

That matters after Bernardo Silva’s exit and the continuing need to support Rodri. Read Man City has already assessed how Rodri’s long-term uncertainty and Bernardo’s departure changed the midfield job, and Tonali fits the same wider rebuild conversation.

The issue is cost. Newcastle do not need to sell cheaply, and a £100million valuation would force City to decide whether Tonali is a priority or a pressure point in the market.

Tottenham’s delay gives City a window, but not a guarantee. If Maresca wants Tonali, City will need to move with clarity before Newcastle turn rival interest into a full bidding war.
