- Malo Gusto wants to reunite with Enzo Maresca at Manchester City
- French international has agreed personal terms with Cityzens
- Chelsea want £75m to sell the right back
Manchester City are moving quickly to bolster their squad after agreeing a deal for Elliot Anderson, with Malo Gusto next on their list.
According to Foot Mercato, the Cityzens have agreed personal terms with the Chelsea defender, who is keen on a reunion with Enzo Maresca.
The Italian is yet to be officially announced as Pep Guardiola’s successor, but it is expected to be confirmed in due course.
City missed out on the Premier League title to Arsenal last season and will be eager to compete once again.
And if reports are to be believed, they are keen to sign Gusto, whose willingness to make the move happen is a sign that a transfer could well be on the cards.
Manchester City agree personal terms with Malo Gusto
Gusto is currently with the France squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is expected to be on the bench for the game against Sweden, with Jules Kounde set to start at right-back.
He already knows Maresca quite well, having worked with him at Chelsea before the Italian’s untimely sacking earlier this year.
And now, according to the aforementioned report, Gusto has already agreed personal terms ahead of a possible transfer to the Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea want a fee of £75m for the 23-year-old and won’t part with him easily, which is a sign that a drawn-out saga could well be on the cards.
City have an agreement with the player, though, and will look to accelerate their pursuit in the coming days.
The report also confirms that Gusto is fully focused on the World Cup right now, so the Cityzens may have to wait a bit longer to get a deal over the line.
Gusto an ideal fit for Maresca
Maresca and Gusto know each other quite well, which is important for a new manager coming into the club.
In recent seasons, Pep Guardiola used Matheus Nunes as a right-back. And while the Portuguese international gave a good account of himself, having an out-and-out specialist in the role would improve City at both ends of the pitch.
Gusto’s injury problems, however, could be a potential red flag, especially considering the steep £75m asking price.
However, City have already paid top dollar to sign Anderson and have proved over the years that they will pay up for the right player.
Gusto is still young and is hardly the finished product. But at just 23, he already has a lot of Premier League and international experience under his belt and could take the next step under Maresca.
When City paid the big bucks for Kyle Walker back in the day, eyebrows were raised despite the England international being a household name in world football.
And Gusto will look to follow in his footsteps as Manchester City are crying out for a proper right-back for the present and the future.
