Phil Foden makes huge England World Cup prediction
  • Phil Foden was left out of England’s World Cup squad
  • He is still cheering on his national team from afar
  • Shares how far he expects the Three Lions to go

Phil Foden may not be part of England’s World Cup squad, but the enthusiasm he has for his country has not been dampened.

The World Cup has been underway for five days, but England are still waiting to play their first fixture of the tournament.

Four Man City stars are in the squad, but Phil Foden was obviously left out due to his drop off in form during the second half of the season.

Despite this, the attacking midfielder is still in good spirits, and he has made a prediction about how far his club teammates could go.

Phil Foden backs England to win the World Cup

England reached the quarter-finals of the previous World Cup, and have been losing finalists at the past two European Championships.

Foden believes they will go far again. In fact, he reckons Thomas Tuchel’s team might even win the competition.

“Looking forward to it mate,” Foden told talkSPORT regarding the World Cup. “Obviously going to watch England hopefully do well, rooting for them. Yeah, I can believe they can win it.”

When asked who would win the golden boot, he replied: “Harry Kane, 100 per cent.”

Foden has taken his rejection well

It cannot be easy for Foden to find himself missing out on the World Cup when he has played at previous tournaments.

Especially since the playmaker has only just turned 26, so his career trajectory would be expected to rise rather than fall.

Nevertheless, Foden was unable to deliver for both City and England over the past season, which ultimately cost him his place on the plane.

Yet as difficult as this is to take, he has remained positive and is supporting his country, which is very commendable.

When is England’s opening match?

The Three Lions will kick off their World Cup campaign on Wednesday at 21:00 BST, in a match against Croatia.

Nico O’Reilly will hope to start at left-back, while John Stones is expected to be selected in the starting lineup.

Marc Guehi could have to settle for a place on the bench, and James Trafford will almost certainly be watching from the sidelines.
