  • Brilliant season for the Frenchman

Manchester City have marked Rayan Cherki’s one year anniversary of joining the club with a commemorative social media post.

When Man City signed Cherki, it was obvious that this was a young player with bags of talent, as shown by his stats at Lyon.

The attacking midfielder registered 12 goals and 20 assists in all competitions during his final season at the French club.

However, performing to a high standard in Ligue 1 is not the same as hacking it in the Premier League, which is widely regarded as the most competitive top flight in Europe.

Man City mark Rayan Cherki’s one year anniversary

Posting on their official X account, Man City have paid tribute to Cherki on the first anniversary of his arrival at the club.

Because the France international has indeed managed to thrive in the Premier League, with his flair and charisma.

Featuring an image of Cherki busting out the iconic meditating celebration, the post was captioned: “A year ago today, Rayan Cherki became a Blue!”

Cherki has been worth every penny

Arriving for just £34m, Cherki was cheaper to buy than Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Ait-Nouri, but he has been far more impressive.

The 22-year-old was shortlisted for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, and it is not hard to understand why.

Registering 11 goals and 16 assists, the youngster had quite the season. And at his age, he is only going to get better.

Being consistent is the key for Cherki

Towards the very end of the season, Cherki’s minutes reduced under Pep Guardiola, but the Catalan has now departed the club.

Despite this, Man City have a very competitive squad, and one or two performances can prove very costly. Therefore, Cherki has to be delivering his best displays on a regular basis, rather than just occasionally.

If Phil Foden rediscovers his best form, the attacking midfield position instantly becomes under threat, and there were signs of that at the conclusion of the campaign.

This ultimately means that Cherki has to match the likes of Erling Haaland when it comes to consistency, ensuring his place in the starting lineup is never compromised.
