- Kalvin Phillips has been on loan at Sheffield United
- Still has two years remaining on his Man City contract
- Could be set for a summer switch away from the Etihad
Kalvin Phillips could be heading for a Manchester City exit this summer after failing to steer his career back on track.
It was recently revealed that Pep Guardiola chose Kalvin Phillips over Declan Rice when Man City signed the Leeds United midfielder four years ago.
Back then, Phillips was an England international and regarded as one of the best defensive minded players in the country.
However, he never hit the ground running at Man City, while his various loan moves have not brought about much success.
Kalvin Phillips could depart Man City this summer
Somehow, Phillips is still in a position where he is contracted to the Citizens for another two years.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Sheffield United are looking to sign the 30-year-old, who only made three appearances for the club this season.
This was due to an injury Phillips picked up in February, causing him to miss the club’s final 13 Championship matches of the season.
Chris Wilder wants to keep Phillips in his squad
Phillips is definitely wanted by Sheffield United, because manager Chris Wilder confirmed their interest towards the end of the season.
He said: “He’ll have a lot of people still after him. We’ve brought a really good pro in. He was unlucky with his injury and he’s not played as much as he wanted to play.
‘I spoke to him and said we’d love to be an option for you, your agent and your parent club if that is a possibility.
“He certainly ticks the box in terms of personality and characteristics, off the pitch and on it. If there’s an opportunity I’m sure we’ll try and explore that one.”
Man City need to secure a permanent sale for Phillips
It could be that Sheffield United attempt another loan deal, but City need to offload Phillips for good this summer.
He has been loaned out to three different teams since joining Man City, and is clearly never going to play for his parent club again.
So regardless of how much money is received, selling Phillips on a permanent basis really ought to happen as soon as possible.
