Vitor Reis will play for Man City next season – no plans for second loan move
  • Vitor Reis returning from Girona loan
  • Defender has grown in experience
  • Looking to play first-team football

Vitor Reis has spent the past season on loan at Girona, and a decision has now been made regarding his future.

When the defender joined Man City last summer, he only had one year of senior football under his belt at Palmeiras.

It was for this reason that Reis was sent on loan to Girona, where he has played an important role this season.

Indeed, Reis only missed two La Liga fixtures, and both were the result of suspensions. In total, he made 38 appearances.

Vitor Reis will be integrated into Man City’s squad

After a successful spell in Spain, Reis is now looking to break into the first-team at Man City, and he looks set to accomplish this goal.

According to ge, Pep Guardiola’s departure has not altered the club’s plans for Reis, and he will head to the Etihad Campus after the summer.

City will then look to integrate the 20-year-old into their squad, allowing him the chance to play at the highest level of English football.

Reis could benefit from departing centre-backs

John Stones has exited Man City, which means there is one less central defender for Reis to compete with.

Additionally, Nathan Ake could leave City this summer, with former club Bournemouth among a number of potential options for the Dutchman.

And there is also the possibility of Josko Gvardiol ditching Man City, even though the club’s preference would be to keep him.

These factors could open things up for Reis, ensuring he gets a good amount of game time over the coming season.

How often will Reis play for Man City?

Even if both Ake and Gvardiol bid farewell, the Citizens still have three strong options in Marc Guehi, Abdukodir Khusanov and Ruben Dias.

So realistically, Reis is mostly going to play in cup competitions, potentially with a few occasional starts in the Premier League.

However, if Reis continues to perform at City the way he did in Spain, his opportunities will begin to increase a lot more.
