- Josko Gvardiol has not yet signed a new contract
- He could end up leaving Man City this summer
- Three big European clubs are showing an interest
Josko Gvardiol might be on the move this summer, as he is moving no closer to agreeing a new deal with Manchester City.
After more than four months on the sidelines, Josko Gvardiol finally returned from injury shortly before the season ended.
And the good news did not stop there, as it was reported that Gvardiol was close to agreeing a contract extension which would keep him at Man City until 2030.
However, lots can change in a few weeks, and it is now looking increasingly likely that the defender will search for new pastures this summer.
Josko Gvardiol could leave Man City
According to Caught Offside, negotiations between Gvardiol and the Citizens have stalled, and he is pushing for a move.
The uncertainty around Gvardiol’s future has been increased due to the fact that Pep Guardiola has left the club.
Currently, the Croatian international is under contract at Man City until 2028, which makes a summer sale likely if both parties fail to agree on a new deal.
Gvardiol has admirers across Europe
Bayern Munich are interested in signing Gvardiol, while the player himself would be open to playing under Vincent Kompany.
There is already a connection there, as the club’s sporting director Max Eberl worked with Gvardiol at RB Leipzig.
Additionally, Real Madrid are considering whether to pursue the centre-back, but he is not viewed as a priority.
Barcelona are another team to be mentioned, while Serie A winners Inter Milan could be interested in a move.
Losing Gvardiol would be a blow to Man City
The Sky Blues are building a defensive line for the future, and losing 24-year-old Gvardiol would be a big loss.
He is already among the club’s best defenders, and still has time to go until he reaches his ultimate ceiling.
Many supporters feel it would make more sense for City to part ways with an older defender like Ruben Dias.
However, if Gvardiol refuses to put pen to paper on a new contract, the situation is no longer in Man City’s hands.
