- John Stones receives Bayern Munich interest
- Chance to reunite with Vincent Kompany
- Similar signing made in 2024
John Stones has been linked with one of the biggest clubs in Europe, and it is a potential deal which could definitely work well.
The end is coming for John Stones at Manchester City. Once Sunday’s match against Aston Villa is done and dusted, he will be off to find a new club.
No matter where Stones ends up, it will be a huge change. After all, he has spent the past decade of his career calling the Etihad Stadium his home.
Moving back to Everton has been offered as a suggestion. However, rumours have emerged about a team who would keep the centre-back playing at the highest level in Europe.
Bayern Munich are interested in John Stones
The Daily Mail have reported Bayern Munich’s interest in John Stones. Since the 31-year-old is out of contract this summer, obviously a move would not cost them a penny.
Barcelona are one of three clubs to also be linked with the defender, but Bayern would likely be the more appealing choice.
Moving there would give Stones the chance to work under ex-teammate Vincent Kompany. Playing alongside his international captain Harry Kane is a nice add-on too.
And it would be a new challenge. After 10 years at City, Stones may well be looking for something new and exciting. Without a doubt, Bayern certainly offer that.
Bayern made a similar signing with Eric Dier
No one could quite understand why Bayern chose to sign Eric Dier in January 2024. Well, other than to make Kane feel more at home.
But the Englishman became a strong addition, making 48 appearances during his one-and-a-half year spell in Germany.
A former defensive midfielder, Dier had that ability to help build up Bayern’s play from the back, and Stones could play a similar role with his ball-playing skills.
If Bayern were able to make use of a defender no longer deemed good enough for Tottenham, surely they can do the same with Stones.
Especially since his decline has actually been due to fitness related issues, rather than a genuine loss of talent.
Man City will be okay without Stones
If Stones can revive his career at Bayern, it would be logical to think that he could do the same at Man City.
However, Pep Guardiola has been building a team for the future. Abdukodir Khusanov arrived last year, while Marc Guehi joined his ranks at the beginning of February.
Should no other centre-back depart this summer, there is going to be a lot of congestion in that position. Therefore, Stones moving on is the best call, but every City supporter will wish him the best.
If he can make things work at Bayern, excellent! Hopefully not in a Champions League match against Man City though.
