- Another impressive season for Erling Haaland
- Man City’s top scorer again
- Fails to receive player of the year nomination
Erling Haaland has been one of Manchester City’s standout performers, but he has missed out on a club player of the season nomination.
The striker’s contributions have been so important to his club. Most recently, he assisted Antoine Semenyo in the FA Cup final.
While the Champions League ended in failure, Haaland did offer a lot, netting eight goals in 10 appearances.
Additionally, Haaland has scored 26 goals in the Premier League, which is more than any other player by fairly comfortable margins.
And still, this has not been enough to earn him a place in the shortlist for Man City’s player of the season award.
Man City announce three player of the season candidates
Instead of Haaland, Jeremy Doku, Abdukodir Khusanov and Nico O’Reilly have been shortlisted for the vote, as reported by Man City.

Doku has been in electric form and without his goals, there is no chance City would still be in the Premier League title race.
O’Reilly was the scorer of both goals in the Carabao Cup final, and Khusanov has won two player of the month awards during an impressive first full campaign at the club.
Haaland deserves a nomination
All three of Man City’s nominees deserve a lot of credit for their respective seasons, as they have all been exceptional.
However, Haaland has been consistently banging in goals or season. And for a player who does not touch the ball all that often, his creativity has been impressive too.
The Norwegian is only four goal contributions away from landing 50, which is an accomplishment worthy of celebrating.
City’s success matters above all else
While the call not to nominate Haaland is a controversial one, he will be more concerned with finishing the season well than collecting individual honours.
City have already wrapped up two trophies this season, and adding an all-important third would be quite the way to end it.
Arsenal are the team in control as it stands, but beat Bournemouth and there is still a chance for the Citizens to pull off a comeback to remember.
