Antoine Semenyo previews Man City’s ‘tough’ penultimate Premier League match against former club

Antoine Semenyo previews Man City’s ‘tough’ penultimate Premier League match against former club
  • Man City play Bournemouth on Tuesday
  • Win required to remain in title race
  • Semenyo receiving threats from ex-teammates

Antoine Semenyo anticipates a tricky game between Manchester City and Bournemouth, and he has received warnings from his old teammates before the encounter.

The Premier League title race is going to have been won by this time next week, and Man City are eager to be the team getting their hands on the trophy.

After an FA Cup triumph on Saturday, the league is the missing piece required to complete a domestic treble.

However, Arsenal are two points clear at the top of the table. Additionally, Man City have to play a Bournemouth team who are without a defeat since January.

Antoine Semenyo knows Man City’s next game will be difficult

Despite losing Antoine Semenyo in January, Bournemouth have been in excellent form. In fact, they have not lost a match in the Premier League since his departure.

Semenyo has joked that he was the player holding the club back, and he knows they will deliver another strong performance on Tuesday.

“I was the problem,” Semenyo jokingly told Manchester Evening News. “I’m happy they’re doing so well and hopefully they get into Europe, too.

“It’s going to be tough [against Bournemouth]. They’ve got something to fight for so they’re going to make it tough.”

The night is set to be particularly difficult for Semenyo, as he has received some warnings about the kind of challenges he will face from his old teammates.

“It won’t be weird going back. It’ll be good to see everyone again,” he continued.

“I still speak to them every day, to be honest, they’ve been giving me a lot of c**p, just like that they’re going to kick me, this and that, but it’ll be good to see them all.

“It’s going to be tough. I’m looking forward to the challenge, hopefully we win.”

Man City are in good form themselves

Bournemouth might be undefeated since January, but so are Man City. And it is Tuesday’s visitors who have accumulated more victories during that period.

The Citizens have kept three clean sheets in their three most recent matches, all of which have resulted in wins.

On top of this, City have won 22 of their 25 overall fixtures against Bournemouth, losing only once in November 2024. Semenyo was on the scoresheet that day, but the Cherries are without him this time around.

Man City won all three of their meetings last year, and these types of records can play on the minds of both sets of players.

Semenyo might not get to start against Bournemouth

Guardiola has been rotating his team to meet the demands of an extremely busy schedule, and this is going to be the case again in midweek.

Semenyo could be one of the players who finds himself on the bench, having started both of City’s two most recent matches.

In fact, the 26-year-old has started all his team’s Premier League matches since joining the club, and he will be feeling the effects of fulfilling so many appearances.

So as it turns out, Bournemouth’s players might not be given the opportunity to terrorise their old partner in crime.

Still, nothing has been confirmed yet, and we will not know for sure who will be playing against Bournemouth until Tuesday evening.
