  • Erling Haaland assisted Man City’s FA Cup final winner
  • The striker still did not score at Wembley
  • His unusual final record remains a talking point

Erling Haaland left Wembley with another Manchester City winners’ medal, but one unusual statistic around the Norwegian striker still followed him after the FA Cup final.

Pep Guardiola’s side arrived at the final after losing two previous FA Cup finals. Likewise, the Chelsea game was another tight Wembley contest rather than a routine procession for the Citizens.

Regardless, Antoine Semenyo found the back of the net following a cutback from Erling Haaland. That assist helped City win their second trophy this season.

However, despite a great performance to show for, the Norwegian yet again failed to score in a final for Man City.

Erling Haaland’s unwanted Man City final record continues

Sky Sports noted after the final that Haaland has now failed to score in 10 finals for Man City despite assisting Semenyo’s winner against Chelsea.

The striker has scored 161 goals for the FA Cup winners in 197 games. He has also played in 10 finals for the club, recording his first assist in a final yesterday.

Despite scoring on average 0.84 goals per game throughout his City career, the final seems like a pending challenge for Haaland.

Haaland has a different Dortmund final record

The City record is even stranger, as Haaland has played in multiple finals before moving to England. The striker played three finals with Borussia Dortmund, and they remain his only final experience before the switch.

Regardless, the goal machine only failed to score in one of the finals while playing the full game. He has three goals in three non-City finals.

He scored his first final goal against Bayern Munich as Dortmund lost 3-2 to the German giants. However, further impact wasn’t possible following his substitution in the 68th minute.

Likewise, he also scored two goals against RB Leipzig in the 2021 DFB Pokal final. Dortmund won the final 4-1, and he practically played the whole game.

Haaland has removed one criticism

Regardless, Haaland did improve his record after assisting for the first time in a final during his senior career.

The Norwegian averaged more than four shots in the last three games that he’s started before Saturday. However, he only managed one shot against Chelsea.

Haaland also had more than three shots on target on average during the same period. Likewise, his xG was 0.95 on average.

Unfortunately, the goal drought in City finals remains, and Haaland will be hoping to find a way in the upcoming knockout competitions.
