Pep Guardiola reveals why Man City ‘cannot celebrate’ if they win FA Cup
  • Man City one win away from FA Cup glory
  • No time for celebrations if successful
  • Pep Guardiola details why

Pep Guardiola has explained that there is something preventing Manchester City from celebrating if they win the FA Cup final.

It would have been hard to believe a few months ago that Man City would be competing for three trophies, but here we are.

The Citizens saw off Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final, and now Chelsea are the team who need brushing aside in the FA Cup.

Should City win, there will be jubilant scenes at Wembley Stadium. However, they will only be able to last a short time, with Pep Guardiola detailing why.

Man City cannot celebrate FA Cup win due to busy schedule

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Guardiola revealed that there would be no time for City to party, were they to win the FA Cup.

This is because the Citizens will have to head back to Manchester, only to head back down south to take on Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

He said: “The main target after the FA Cup final is taking a shower quick, come back to Manchester, go to sleep. Because on Monday, we have to fly to Bournemouth. That’s the schedule.

“Imagine, hypothetically, tomorrow we win. We cannot even celebrate it! We have to go home immediately to prepare the other final we have in Bournemouth.

“This is, today, what happens in modern football, unfortunately, honestly. But it is what it is.

Two finals left in the Premier League

Guardiola has called the match against the Cherries a final, and one look at the Premier League table explains exactly why.

Man City are trailing Arsenal by two points, but have a superior goal difference. So if the Gunners drop points against Burnley or Crystal Palace, this could change the colour of the ribbons being placed on the Premier League trophy.

However, the Sky Blues have to ensure they keep winning. And unfortunately, partying hard all through the night will not place them in good stead for what comes next.

The FA Cup final should return to its old slot

In previous times, the FA Cup final would be the final game of the domestic season. England has changed things up, but in Scotland they use the old, more effective schedule.

Celtic are battling Hearts today for the Premiership, then the Bhoys will have a full week to rest up and prepare for the cup final against Dunfermline Athletic.

Whereas Man City will have no time to relax, and their celebrations must be brief, provided they are the victors at Wembley.

It highlights how the English game have got this wrong, and it is something which needs changing back as soon as possible.
