- Manchester City’s last 10 meetings against Crystal Palace
- Palace in poor form heading into the clash.
- Crystal Palace have caused Manchester City problems
Manchester City’s last 10 meetings against Crystal Palace have been dramatic to say the least, with Pep Guardiola’s men winning five, drawing three and losing two matches.
However, the good news for City is that Oliver Glasner’s side are in poor form as they have won and lost two games apiece while drawing one out of their last five outings.
On Wednesday night, the Sky Blues cannot afford to drop points as Arsenal could become Premier League champions against Burnley with a win.
Manchester City are favourites to beat Crystal Palace but based on the last 10 meetings between both sides, it would be naive to write off the visitors at the Etihad Stadium.
Crystal Palace 0-3 Manchester City
It was a tale of two halves the last time Manchester City faced Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in December, with the Eagles looking like the more threatening side.
Palace were punished for being rather wasteful in front of goal in the 41st minute as Erling Haaland opened the scoring with a bullet header.
While Rayan Cherki was quiet against Brentford and has been muted in recent weeks, he stole the show in the second half, particularly when the Frenchman set up Phil Foden’s stunner to double the visitors’ lead.
Haaland went on to bag a penalty, capping off a brilliant day at the office for City as they won 3-0.
Crystal Palace 1-0 Manchester City
In May last year, Crystal Palace pulled off an incredible upset in the FA Cup final by beating Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley Stadium. Eberechi Eze scored the one and only goal of the contest, with Manuel Akanji failing to track the now-Arsenal midfielder before he volleyed the ball into the back of the net.
Manchester City put in a truly sorry performance, struggling to break Palace down while having a difficult time coping with the South Londoners’ threat on the counter.
Manchester City 5-2 Crystal Palace
Within 21 minutes, Eze and Chris Richards managed to fire Crystal Palace into a 2-0 lead. However, Kevin De Bruyne’s greatness inspired Manchester City to an eventual 5-2 win.
De Bruyne scored a gorgeous free-kick to kickstart City’s comeback, played the pre-assist for Omar Marmoush’s leveller and set up Mateo Kovacic’s winning goal.
With the Sky Blues’ academy graduates in James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly getting on the scoresheet, the hosts went on to win emphatically at the Etihad Stadium.
Crystal Palace 2-2 Manchester City
Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in December 2024 was a torrid day for Kyle Walker in particular, as he played Daniel Munoz onside for his opening goal for starters. Haaland levelled the scores in the first half, thanks to a sublime cross from Nunes from the left flank.
However, for Palace’s second goal courtesy of Maxence Lacroix, Walker was caught in no man’s land once again as the French defender headed his side into a 2-1 lead. The exit-linked Rico Lewis fired an equaliser after a sumptous bit of interplay between himself, Bernardo Silva and De Bruyne.
However, Lewis was eventually sent off after getting a second yellow on a day where Manchester City were a tad fortunate to clinch a point.
Crystal Palace 2-4 Manchester City
Manchester City grabbed a crucial three points against Crystal Palace on their travels as they won 4-2 in April two years ago.
Jean-Phillipe Mateta opened Palace’s account by beating John Stones for pace as Adam Wharton’s incisive through ball caught City’s high line out.
However, De Bruyne was instrumental in City’s comeback again, especially when he scored a belter in the first half to level the scores.
The Belgian managed to assist Haaland from close quarters and even bagged a second but it was Lewis’ winning goal caught the headlines as the youngster stepped up big-time in the title race.
Manchester City 2-2 Crystal Palace
Phil Foden emerged as a major talking point from the contest as he assisted Jack Grealish and Lewis’ goals but simultaneously conceded a penalty in added time to gift Palace score a 95th-minute equaliser.
Manchester City were two goals to the good by the 54th minute. However, Mateta outpaced Ruben Dias to set up Jeffrey Schlupp’s first goal in the 76th minute before Michael Olise dispatched his late spot-kick.
Crystal Palace 0-1 Manchester City
In City’s legendary treble-winning season, they were famously entrenched in a tightly-contested title race with Arsenal.
Crystal Palace gave Manchester City a real go but Olise needlessly fouled Ilkay Gundogan in the box late into the game, handing a visitors a spot-kick at Selhurst Park. Haaland converted his penalty in ice-cool fashion to settle the contest and hand his side an important three points in March 2023.
Manchester City 4-2 Crystal Palace
Haaland is a man in form currently and during his time in England, even the star striker’s biggest spectics must have learned that it is futile to cast doubt over the 25-year-old’s goalscoring prowess.
In August 2022, the former Borussia Dortmund marksman scored a clinical 20-minute hat-trick to win Manchester City the game. An own goal from John Stones coupled with Joachim Andersen’s header meant Palace were in a shock 2-0 lead after 21 minutes.
But Bernardo’s early goal in the second half followed by Haaland’s heroics meant Manchester City ultimately made light work of Patrick Vieira’s side at the time.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Manchester City
On another day, Pep Guardiola would have been smiling from ear to ear about City taking Palace to the cleaners.
However, Manchester City wasted far too many gilt-edged chances to put Crystal Palace to the sword, with Aymeric Laporte missing an open goal and Bernardo Silva putting a tap-in wide of the far post in particular.
Manchester City 0-2 Crystal Palace
Laporte had a poor day at the office against Crystal Palace in 2021 in particular. The Spanish international’s scuffed pass was intercepted by Conor Gallagher, who set up Wilfried Zaha’s opener.
Laporte went on to get sent off after fouling Zaha, with the referee deeming the Athletic Bilbao defender’s challenge as one that denied Crystal Palace of a clear goalscoring opportunity.
Gabriel Jesus’ eventual equaliser was ruled out due to the Brazilian being offside and later in the second half, Gallagher sealed the clash for Palace as they won 2-0.
