- Man City U18s won the northern title
- City’s youngsters are preparing for a national final
- Chelsea await after winning the southern section
Manchester City’s academy season has been given another major fixture after the club confirmed the details for their Under-18 Premier League National Final.
The young Sky Blues won the U18 Premier League North title for the second successive season. Likewise, they finished with 60 points from 26 matches.
The U18s were announced champions with a game in hand after their win over Derby County this month. This achievement secured their place in the U18 Premier League National Final.
The academy will now face Southern Champions Chelsea in the National Final. Likewise, ahead of the major academy fixture, Man City have received confirmation of the key details.
Man City U18s receive Chelsea final confirmation
The National Final will take place at Stamford Bridge, meaning it will be an away clash for the Citizens. The kick-off will be at 19:00 UK time on Friday, 22nd May.
Oliver Reiss’ side have already enjoyed an impressive domestic campaign, and the trip to Stamford Bridge now gives them the chance to finish the season with another major statement.
Likewise, Chelsea have also enjoyed a strong season with 67 points in 28 games. The young Blues won 21, drew four and lost only three games.
Man City already sent Chelsea FA Youth Cup warning
City will have recent evidence that they can hurt Chelsea in a one-off knockout-style fixture. The two sides have already met this season, with Reiss’ side earning a dominant win at Kingsmeadow.
Man City won 4-1 against the Blues in the FA Youth Cup fifth round. Following a goalless first half, City took control after the break.
Floyd Samba, Dante Headley, Xavier Parker and Ryan McAidoo scored for the club that day. Ryan Kavuma-McQueen later secured a consolation for the home side.
The result should give the visitors confidence before the national final. However, they should not be complacent as Chelsea’s record this season is one to watch out for.
Man City can still complete impressive domestic double
City’s U18s may have missed out on the Premier League Cup and the UEFA Youth League, but they still have the chance to finish the season with a major domestic double.
Reiss’ side have already won the U18 Premier League North title for the second successive season, and a victory over Chelsea would make them overall U18 Premier League national champions.
Before the Chelsea clash, City also have the FA Youth Cup final against Manchester United at the Joie Stadium.
That means the young Sky Blues could still end the campaign by winning the FA Youth Cup and the U18 Premier League National Final in the space of just over a week.
