- Golden Boot race tightens
- Brentford threat growing
- Haaland faces direct test
Erling Haaland’s next Manchester City outing could carry extra significance as Pep Guardiola’s side prepare for another crucial Premier League clash.
Manchester City’s title race suffered another setback after their 3-3 draw against Everton at the Hill Dickinson stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side rescued a point late thanks to Jeremy Doku’s stoppage-time winner on Monday. However, the result still left Arsenal in control at the top of the Premier League table.
Likewise, Saturday’s clash against Brentford has garnered further pressure following the weekday clash. Nevertheless, the game will have a major impact on the title race.
However, it won’t be the only race for Erling Haaland as the striker will also face his golden boot rival, Igor Thiago, on the weekend.
Erling Haaland leads Igor Thiago in Golden Boot race
Haaland currently leads the 2025/26 Premier League Golden Boot race with 25 goals in the English top-flight.
However, Brentford’s Thiago is just three goals behind the Man City striker with 22 goals for the Bees this season.
A goal against Brentford will strengthen Haaland’s position on Saturday, but Thiago could also have his say during the game.
The Brazilian has scored 42 per cent of Brentford’s league goals and is overperforming his xG of 20.22 by a small margin.
Thiago has also scored eight penalty goals in the Premier League this season out of nine, hence City will have to be careful with the Bees in the penalty box.
Thiago form gives Man City problems
The 24-year-old has netted three times in his last five Premier League games, suggesting he is arriving at the Etihad in strong form.
Likewise, Brentford have created chances worth 56.7 xG in the English top-flight ranking sixth, just behind Bornemouth, Manchester United and Arsenal.
With Guardiola’s side conceding three on Monday, the Bees’ attacking threat will be worrying. Furthermore, the visitors have also got a man who can convert, and that just adds to City’s problems.
Haaland can control more than one race
However, Haaland hasn’t been doing worse as the Norwegian striker also scored three goals in his last five Premier League games.
The striker is just behind Harry Kane in the European Golden Boot race. Haaland also has the most shots (119), most shots on target (54), headed shots (30) and non-penalty xG (20.82) in the English top-flight.
The Man City star also tops the xG (23.98) and xGOT (20.94) lists. Nevertheless, Haaland will have to pump those numbers this weekend to stay on top of the race.
With the 25-year-old running two races simultaneously, the pressure will be immense for the Norway international.
Nevertheless, Saturday will be important for the two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner who’ll be looking to add a third by the end of the season.
