- Man City win WSL
- Manager reacts
- Praises players
Manchester City women’s manager Andree Jeglertz has highlighted the qualities his squad possess which allowed them to win the WSL title.
The women’s football season is almost over and even with a match still to play, the Citizens have achieved their goal.
Man City were crowned WSL champions on Wednesday night after Arsenal failed to defeat Brighton & Hove Albion.
City have a six-point lead over second place Chelsea and each team only has one match left to play, meaning it is mission accomplished for Andreee Jeglertz and his players.
Andreee Jeglertz reacts to WSL title victory
Manchester City’s manager Jeglertz has revealed that it was ‘horrible’ watching Arsenal’s draw with Brighton, because the result was out of his hands.
However, Jerglertz always had a feeling his team were good enough to win the league, due to three key qualities he saw in them.

“It’s been a horrible experience to watch another team play, knowing you can’t do anything – that was the worst 90 minutes of the season,” Jeglertz told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Asked if he expected Man City to win the league when he joined last summer, the boss added: “I don’t know if expect is the right word, but I knew the ambition from the club, what they put into the women’s programme, the quality of players and also the hunger to win.
“Definitely, I had a feeling already from the beginning that it was possible. I’m here because that was one of the many things they wanted us to aim for.
“I definitely believed in it, but it went fast. We got pretty good, quite early. The more you believe in it, then everything is possible with the quality of this group.”
Man City were unstoppable in the Autumn period
Turning his attention to how City won the WSL in practice, Jeglertz pointed out their excellent form at the back end of last year.
Indeed, after losing to Chelsea on the first day of the season, the Sky Blues went on to win 14 successive league matches.
Their second defeat did not even come until February, highlighting a brilliant run of consistency across the campaign as a whole.

“Only two players in the squad won the league before. That means something because it’s about believing you can win more games,” he continued.
“We had a long streak of winning during autumn and that caused a feeling of needing to start talking about winning the league.
“I’m a strong believer that if you believe you can win, you have more opportunity to actually do it.”
City’s attention turns to the Women’s FA Cup
The Man City women’s squad gathered together to watch Brighton’s match against Arsenal unfold, and celebrations went on late into the night.
This could raise some concerns, as they will be playing Chelsea this Sunday in the Women’s FA Cup semi-finals.
Despite this, Jeglertz was happy to let his team have their night of jubilation and he has insisted it will not affect their preparations for the weekend.
He added: “They are very professional. They definitely deserve to enjoy this evening, whatever that means.
“From tomorrow and on Friday, we will put all our energy into the Chelsea game and for the semi-final.”
Sunday’s match will kick off at 15:30 BST, while Liverpool will take on Brighton in the other semi-final three hours before.
