- Man City unable to defeat Everton
- Very careless in possession
- Pep Guardiola still full of praise for his team
Manchester City made a lot of errors at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but this has not stopped Pep Guardiola from waxing lyrical over his team’s performance.
The Premier League table is not looking good for Manchester City, after a hectic 3-3 draw with Everton on a Bank Holiday Monday full of drama.
Arsenal are now five points clear at the top of the table and just need to win their three remaining games in order to secure the title.
There were a lot of problems with City’s latest display, but Pep Guardiola has absolutely no desire to throw his players under the bus.
Pep Guardiola praises ‘outstanding’ Man City
It is fairly common for Guardiola to compliment his team regardless of the scoreline, and that is the case once again after Monday night’s draw.
Choosing to look at the positives, Man City’s manager has heaped praise on the way his side performed.

Guardiola told Sky Sports: “Really good, we played outstanding first-half, really, really good. We created a lot when it’s so tight, difficult physically.
“Second-half they [Everton] made a step up, we were maybe not as much aggressive in control, and after we gave away the goal. But after we came back, and they made a proper English game, so aggressive, so, so aggressive in the duels.
“But in general, we made a really good performance!”
“We were outstanding,” he continued. “We arrived to the by-line a lot, shots, and chances, and it’s not easy because they played defensively so well with 10 players there, transitions with Beto and [Kiernan] Dewsbury-Hall, and yeah. So, we take the point, and until it’s over, we’ll continue.”
On drawing, Guardiola added: “It’s better than losing. It’s better to win, and we play for that. It just shows what a team they are; we tried and everything. The players that came up [from the bench], they were aggressive. We have done it.”
Man City were not outstanding
Sorry Pep, but Man City were not even close to being outstanding against Everton. Just look at the goals which were scored.
Jeremy Doku netted two borderline screamers, which were the result of his own individual brilliance rather than the excellent team play.
Erling Haaland’s goal spotlighted other players a bit more, as Mateo Kovacic played a well crafted through pass.
However, City were lacking in the chance creation department, and the problems at the other end of the pitch were even greater.
They constantly gave the ball away and gifted Everton a point through carelessness and sluggish reactions. The overall performance was pretty poor!
City need to be much better against Brentford
The Premier League is now in Arsenal’s hands and should City cough up even more points, their title charge is well and truly over.
Winning their final four matches is not just desirable, it is an absolute necessity to have any chance of a domestic treble.
This means Man City have to make use of possession by creating more goalscoring opportunities, while avoiding careless passes inside their own half.
Everton played well, but the reason they almost beat the Citizens was the result of endless errors from the visiting team.
Should they continue in this fashion on Saturday, the Gunners will basically have their hands on the trophy before a ball has been kicked a day later in East London.
