Jeremy Doku describes ‘painful’ feeling as Man City gift Everton a point

  • Man City led Everton at half-time
  • Fell 3-1 behind due to careless errors
  • Jeremy Doku says City gave game away

Manchester City managed to scrape a draw against Everton late into stoppage time, but Jeremy Doku is not satisfied with how his team performed.

There was not a lot to shout about for Manchester City in the first half on Monday night. Despite having most of the possession, Jordan Pickford remained largely unchallenged.

This changed when Jeremy Doku curled the ball into the top left corner of the net, giving Man City an important lead just before the break.

The winger would go on to score a similar effort late in the game, but he is not best pleased by what happened in between these terrific strikes.

Man City were the masters of their own downfall

According to Doku, City were good in the first half and had enough opportunities to distance themselves from Everton.

However, the Belgium international has delivered a harsh blow concerning what came next, as he has claimed that City gave their opponent the match.

He told Man City’s official website: “First half we played well and created a lot of chances. We know if we don’t score those chances it is going to get difficult at the end.

“Obviously, they are at their own stadium, they create chances, and they are dangerous, and they scored two goals, but I think we gave them the game.”

Doku’s verdict on Man City is spot on

Credit to Everton for the way they capitalised on their opening goal, but Doku is completely right to point out how City sealed their own fate.

The Citizens should have been building on their lead, but instead fell behind due to a result of their own errors.

Marc Guehi gift wrapped Everton a goal with the worst pass you will ever see, and Abdukodir Khusanov was caught out shortly before the hosts’ second.

The third was not much better, with multiple defenders caught out of position as the Toffees gained a significant advantage from a long throw-in.

City are not giving up on the Premier League title

It was a bad day at the office for Manchester City, but if it can happen to them, Arsenal are not out of the woods just yet.

Mikel Arteta’s team have a promising lead in the Premier League table, but Man City are going to keep on fighting to the end.

Every point could prove important at this stage of the season, and Doku has given his side a lifeline with his last minute effort.

“Good that we came back because one point is not bad in games like this,” Doku continued.

“We know that one point can be important at the end. I’m happy to score and happy to help the team.

“We will see. It feels painful now. There is still a lot of games to go. We lost two points today. We will keep on fighting – we owe it to ourselves and to our fans.”
