  • Man City are expanding the North Stand at the Etihad Stadium
  • Season ticket holders can pre-register to relocate their seat
  • A new singing section will be included

Manchester City have announced more details surrounding the expansion of the Etihad Stadium’s North Stand, which will take the ground’s capacity to over 60,000.

The work, which started in 2023, will see around 7,000 new seats added, along with a 400-bed hotel, new fan zone and expanded megastore.

Season ticket holders have been invited to pre-register their interest in relocating their seat to the expanded stand ahead of next season.

Also included are safe standing areas and a new ‘enhanced singing section’, both of which are expected to improve the atmosphere at City home matches.

Etihad Stadium North Stand will include enhanced singing section

After conversations with supporter groups, City confirmed via their website that both safe standing sections and an enhanced singing area will be part of the redeveloped stand.

The club statement read: “Following conversations with City Matters, the Official Supporters Club (OSC) and 1894, we want to understand the demand for a condensed section within the safe standing section for fans who want to help lead, build and sustain noise inside the Stadium.

“While every part of the Stadium plays a role in creating a fantastic matchday atmosphere, we’re offering fans the opportunity to register their interest to be part of an ‘Enhanced Singing Section’. These seats will be located from the back row of the new North Stand.

“Fans can pre-register for this area by clicking ‘Enhanced Singing Section’. Fans in the ‘Wider Safe Standing’ sections will still be encouraged to play a part in creating an incredible atmosphere on matchday.”

North Stand pre-registration open to season ticket holders

Following this latest announcement, the Carabao Cup winners are opening pre-registration for the new North Stand ahead of the 2026/27 season.

This means that season ticket holders can register their interest in relocating, as well as moving friends and family members to the new section.

Following the pre-registration period, the club says it will contact fans who have signed up to discuss next steps from Thursday, 14 May.

New standing and singing sections could boost City

While the atmosphere at the Etihad has improved in recent years, there have still been some who criticise the level of noise.

This new, dedicated section should help create a more intimidating wall of noise and colour for visiting teams, and give the home side a boost when they walk out on to the field.

With every small percentage of difference crucial at the highest level, even the tiniest llift for the players could be the difference between winning and losing.

The club will therefore hope to see the desired effects from this latest stadium redevelopment and expansion.
