- Man City play Everton on Monday night
- City expected to win
- David Moyes eyes upset
Manchester City will be high on confidence ahead of a trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but David Moyes is in the process of planning their downfall.
The Premier League table is looking quite favourable for Manchester City, with one victory required to move back into first place.
On paper, this should not be too difficult considering City are up against Everton, a team who are winless in their last three matches.
The Toffees’ two most recent games both ended in 2-1 defeats to Liverpool and West Ham respectively.
However, David Moyes is looking to get Everton back on track, with European football next season still a real possibility.
David Moyes wants to do ‘something special’ against Man City
Ahead of Monday night’s match-up, Everton’s manager has been speaking to the media about his team’s chances against Man City.
According to Moyes, City are a ‘tough’ team to play against, and he has labelled Pep Guardiola as ‘terrific’.
Despite this, the Scotsman has not ruled out an upset from his side which would go a long way in derailing City’s title hopes.
Discussing the Citizens’ recent form, Moyes said in his pre-match press conference: “”It is not unexpected – Manchester City are capable of things like this. But we know if we can do something special it could help us greatly”.
Pep Guardiola returns the favour to Moyes
Although Moyes is eager to take down Man City, he made sure to offer a compliment to Guardiola, in what could potentially be their final duel.
The respect between the pair is mutual, with Guardiola waxing lyrical over the Everton boss during his own press conference.
He said: “David Moyes has had that passion since he was born, and it’s really impressive at his age that he’s still going strong. It’s really nice to see.”
City will not be concerned by Everton’s need for a win
Everton will be determined to secure three points against Man City, because they are desperate to be competing in the Europa League next season.
Nevertheless, the Sky Blues have been exceptional against teams with plenty to play for in recent weeks.
Indeed, Guardiola’s men thrashed a Chelsea side chasing Champions League qualifying, before besting an Arsenal team eager to end their long wait for a Premier League title.
After that, City conquered Burnley in a match which saw Scott Parker’s team relegated to the Championship after only one season in the top flight.
Regardless of their opponent, City always show no mercy and keep on winning. Therefore, more of the same can be expected on Monday.
