  • The defender has been superb since arriving
  • He says he is ‘blessed’ to be at the club

Manchester City defender Marc Guehi has expressed his gratitude at signing for the club, and says he feels ‘blessed’ to be part of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Former Crystal Palace captain Guehi joined the Sky Blues in January for an initial £20 million. He has since made 15 appearances in all competitions.

Guehi’s developing partnership with fellow centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov has been pivotal to City’s upturn in form in the second half of the season.

With just weeks remaining of the season, Guehi has been reflecting on his arrival, and how he has adapted to life at the Etihad Stadium.

Marc Guehi loving life at Manchester City

Speaking to Man City’s official digital magazine, Guehi discussed life at the club so far, and how welcoming the club and local supporters have been since he joined.

Guehi said: “I’ve enjoyed it. Everyone’s been super welcoming. I’ve been learning a lot, different things. And obviously we’re competing for titles, I’m just grateful – it’s a blessing being here.

“I just want to get my head down, work, help the guys. I want to help this club continue reaching heights it has.”

He continued: “Manchester’s nice. I didn’t know too much about the city before, but since I’ve been here, everyone’s been super welcoming and there’s so many different food spots and things to do, so it’s definitely a place I’ll enjoy living for many, many years.”

‘Blessed’ Marc Guehi grateful to share faith with teammates

As well as thanking those he’s met at City, Guehi also explained his faith in God has helped him, both this season and throughout his footballing career.

“I’m extremely blessed,” said Guehi. “Grateful to God, grateful to my parents, grateful to everyone that’s helped on my journey, and there’s hopefully going to be many more good moments along the journey, as well as downs as well, because it’s part of life. It truly is a blessing, and I’m sure I’ll look back on it with even more pride once my career is done.”

Guehi added: “Me, Antoine [Semenyo], Rico [Lewis] and Jeremy [Doku], we’re big on our faith and our belief in Jesus Christ. It’s been nice to have Christ together and share that and live that faith each and every day and besides everyone else.”

Guehi excited for the future as City chase treble

With City still able to win a domestic treble, Guehi is looking forward to the challenge facing him in the final stages of the season.

He said: “It’s exciting, but the most important is we all get our heads down and work. I’m not going to say we try to emulate or reach the heights of the guys before us, but the standards have been set and it’s important we come to work every day and try reach those standards and hopefully go beyond.

“We have unreal quality. There’s a lot for me to learn off. Everyone has so many different qualities. For me personally it’s a dream to play with these players and an opportunity to learn from each and every one of them.

“When you have players like [Rayan] Cherki, it’s fantastic. Hopefully there’s a lot of opportunities and good things for all of us at this football club to share with the fans”
