- Haaland delivers again for City
- Cherki continues impressive form
- Guardiola’s side stay in title fight
Two Manchester City players have been included in the latest Flashscore Premier League Team of the Week following their important 1-0 victory over Burnley.
Pep Guardiola’s side secured a crucial three points against Burnley last week. This keeps the Citizens in the Premier League title race, while Arsenal returned to winning ways against Newcastle United.
Erling Haaland continued his form after scoring against Arsenal the week before. The Norwegian scored the differentiators in both clashes against the Gunners and the Clarets.
Rayan Cherki, though, was quiet in terms of direct attacking output but kept pressuring Burnley’s defence as the Frenchman registered two shots on target.
Man City duo make Flashscore Team of the Week
Following their performances at Turf Moor, both Cherki and Haaland were named in Flashscore’s Premier League team of the week.
Haaland remained at the top of the league scorers list after his goal against the Clarets. The Norwegian striker has recorded 24 goals in the league this season.
Cherki, on the other hand, led City’s attack with 17 touches in Burnley’s box. He also succeeded on the creative side with the highest xA (0.44) of all players on the pitch.
Rayan Cherki continues to shine under Pep Guardiola’s structured approach
After joining Man City almost one year ago, critics weren’t sure of Cherki’s fit under Pep Guardiola’s structured system.
However, the creative playmaker has continued to shine under the Catalan manager despite some complaints about his off-the-ball effort.
Likewise, the attacking midfielder makes up for it with his attacking output. Cherki has registered 10 assists in 17 starts in the Premier League. He has also scored four goals in the English top-flight this season.
Erling Haaland proving decisive in title run-in
Despite being quiet against Chelsea in a game that saw Man City net three goals, the Norway international scored when it counted in the two clashes that followed.
Haaland didn’t start against Southampton in the FA Cup semi-final as Omar Marmoush was swapped in his stead.
Guardiola wanted him to rest for a six-game run, which will be played in 20 days, as the Catalan manager will be counting on the goal machine to make a difference when he’s needed again.
