- Omar Marmoush should be sold
- Marmoush does not fit into Manchester City’s plans
- Eli Junior Kroupi could be potential replacement
Despite Omar Marmoush largely faring well at the Etihad Stadium, it is hard to justify why staying at Manchester City would benefit both the player and the club itself.
The 27-year-old has been on the periphery of things at City this season, with Aston Villa eyeing Marmoush ahead of the summer transfer window.
During the 2025/2026 campaign, the Egyptian international has started a mere 14 games in all competitions as it is clear to see that Pep Guardiola does not particularly fancy him.

Marmoush is a top player, as his tally of six goal and three assists reflects but there are a plethora of reasons why it would be best for all parties involved to cut ties in the summer.
Man City should offload Omar Marmoush
It is difficult to envisage the former Eintracht Frankfurt forward becoming a key player for Manchester City anytime soon.
In his preferred left-sided inside forward role, Jeremy Doku has thrived this campaign and unlike Marmoush, the Belgian can impact proceedings even if he is asked to hug the touchline.
Similarly, the in-form Antoine Semenyo can operate on both flanks and even as a nominal centre-forward, he has looked the part for City.

Marmoush’s struggles against Southampton also showcased that leading the line is far from his forte.
With Rayan Cherki also massively influencing proceedings as a wide player, the Cairo-born goalscorer would perhaps be a much better fit in another team’s tactical plans.
Man City eyeing Omar Marmoush replacement
Manchester City are eyeing Eli Junior Kroupi, who can operate as a striker and in the hole behind the number nine in a similar vein to Marmoush.
Kroupi could cost £69.3 million and since his move to AFC Bournemouth, the Frenchman has been a revelation.
- Premier League starts: 17
- Goals: 11
- Assists: 0
With 11 Premier League goals in just 17 starts to his name, the Frenchman could end up being a potentially astute replacement for Marmoush if the move gets over the line.
Marmoush signing exposes Man City’s recruitment issues
However, Marmoush’s potential sale would expose Manchester City’s hit-and-miss recruitment over the years.
Players like Kalvin Phillips, the exit-linked Nico Gonzalez and Brighton target James Trafford are other stars whose moves to the Etihad Stadium have lacked a long-term vision.
As for the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, when he returned to the club, Mateo Kovacic and Savinho, they have either flattered to deceive or simply not hit the heights of previous standards in terms of new signings.
With Marmoush joining Manchester City in January 2025, the fact that he may be surplus to requirements already reflects poorly on the club’s recruits.
