- Manchester City monitoring midfielder
- Pep Guardiola could target Silva successor
- Multiple European clubs also interested
Manchester City are reportedly considering a move for a Girona midfielder who could emerge as a long-term replacement for Bernardo Silva.
Manchester City’s summer planning is already underway following the announcement of Bernardo Silva’s departure.
The Portuguese international recently confirmed the exit following his contract expiry at the end of the season.
Rumours have only grown stronger following this notification as the Sky Blues continue to be linked with the likes of Elliott Anderson, Enzo Fernandez and many more.
However, a new name has now reportedly made the Citizens’ shortlist of players who might replace captain Silva.
Man City identify Azzedine Ounahi as potential Bernardo Silva successor
According to reports, Man City are monitoring Azzedine Ounahi as a possible replacement for Bernardo Silva.
The Morocco international’s release clause is set at around £17m, hence the price shouldn’t be a dealbreaker for the Citizens.
The midfielder currently plays for Girona and is also receiving interest from Atletico Madrid, Villareal, Brighton and Aston Villa.
Man City have relational advantage
The Sky Blues are not dead set on the Girona midfielder. However, they still have a relational advantage over other clubs if they ever decide to pursue Ounahi.
The City Football Group owns 47% stake in Girona, and transfer relations have always been smooth amongst member clubs.
The most recent operation between the clubs was a loan deal for Claudio Echeverri, who joined Girona in January 2026.
A risk-taking high-volume creator
Ounahi isn’t a starter at Girona, as the North African footballer has only made 14 starts in La Liga this season.
He has two assists and five goals in 1,277 minutes played. Despite his role, Ounahi has averaged 0.20 xA per 90.
The midfielder also created 1.55 chances on average per 90. However, Ounahi’s risk profile is also high, as his passing accuracy is only above average for an attacking midfielder in La Liga.
This comes with the territory, but it is important to note that he’d rank better in the Premier League with the same stats.
