- Rayan Cherki joined City for £30 million
- Has 25 goal involvements this season
- Transfer value has increased significantly
Manchester City star Rayan Cherki has become a lot more valuable since arriving from Olympique Lyonnais last summer.
The Frenchman joined Man City for a reported £30 million initial fee in June, and has quickly established himself as a key member of Pep Guardiola’s side.
He scored his tenth goal of the season in City’s 2-1 win against Arsenal, and has been turning in some incredible performances in recent weeks.
This has seen his transfer value skyrocket, with the 22-year-old one of the most sought-after young talents in the Premier League.
Rayan Cherki doubles his transfer value this season
It’s been an incredible start to life at the Etihad Stadium for Cherki. The young superstar was branded ‘unplayable’ after his dazzling performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup, and he appears to be growing in confidence every week.
As a result, his market value has skyrocketed. In fact, it has almost doubled this season, according to figures from Transfer Markt.

So far, Cherki’s value has increased from £30m to a reported £57m, and this increase shown little sign of slowing down.
How good has Cherki been this season?
On paper, Cherki’s goalscoring stats are not as impressive as they could be. Four goals in 27 Premier League appearances are fewer than expected for an attacking player at Man City.
However, his creativity has been the most impressive part of his game. With 10 assists in the league and a further three in cup competitions, Cherki has unlocked City’s attack and become a focal point of the team.

On top of this, the manner and importance of his goal involvements have often been vital. The Frenchman’s recent contributions include scoring the opener against Arsenal on Sunday, two assists at Chelsea last weekend, and another against Liverpool.
The sky is the limit for Cherki at Man City
Still only 22, Cherki has the potential to become an even better player. His ability on the ball and creative flair are already world-class, but if he can find the consistency to show his best form every week, he could become an all-time great.
If he stays fit and continues to develop, who knows how good he could be in the future? For City, that is an exciting prospect.
Opponents will be praying that the young attacker is just a one-season wonder, but all the signs suggest that Cherki is a talent that’s here to stay in the Premier League.
Cherki rejected Manchester United
Interestingly, Cherki might never have joined Man City, had it not been for a decision he made back in 2015.
The France international had a trial at Chelsea and received interest from Manchester United, but he chose to remain at Lyon.
Eventually Cherki would make the move to the Premier League, but as a representative of the Sky Blues, where he is thriving.
