Jeremy Doku says Manchester City are ‘well prepared’ to defeat Arsenal in Premier League crunch match

  • Man City beat Chelsea
  • Move within six points of Arsenal
  • Teams face off at the weekend

Manchester City have moved three points closer to Arsenal after a 3-0 victory over Chelsea, which has left Jeremy Doku feeling confident ahead of this Sunday’s clash.

What a weekend it has been for those of a Sky Blue persuasion! On Saturday afternoon, Arsenal were beaten by Bournemouth, giving Man City the chance to get closer to their Premier League title rivals.

This opportunity was taken, as Man City thumped Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, making things very interesting ahead of this coming Sunday.

The Citizens will take on Arsenal for the third time this season and a win would put them just three points behind, with a game-in-hand too.

Jeremy Doku previews Man City vs Arsenal

Man City will be high on confidence, especially those who landed on the scoresheet against Chelsea, including Jeremy Doku.

The winger scored the goal which ensured there was no possible comeback for the Blues and he has now turned his focus to City’s next fixture, and the title race as a whole.

Asked by Sky Sports whether Man City would lift the most sought after trophy in England, Doku replied: “I would be crazy if I wouldn’t believe we can win the Premier League title. I believe, obviously, that the race is on.”

Looking ahead to the Arsenal match, he added: “We have a big game now, we’re going to recover well, and we’ll look forward to it. Trust me, we will be well prepared.

“If you win this game, it’s a big punch towards them. If you lose this game, it’s in their hands. If we win, it’s in our hands, and I prefer to have it in our hands.”

Doku will play a key role for Man City in the Premier League

Manchester City only have seven Premier League matches remaining and Doku is going to be starting more often than not.

Interestingly, he had not started a league game since the January defeat to Manchester United, until yesterday.

Of course, the Belgian spent time on the sidelines with a calf injury and Pep Guardiola played him twice against Real Madrid, rather than the Nottingham Forest and West Ham draws.

However, he is back to peak fitness and has shown himself to be an attacking threat. Therefore, even though City have plenty of options, Doku is going to be starting most, if not all of his team’s remaining fixtures in the Premier League.

Man City could be the Premier League favourites by next week

This time next week, Man City could be the team most are backing to win the Premier League. If they beat Arsenal, this is almost certain.

The Gunners have really lost their way, suffering three successive defeats, all in different competitions. Whereas City have all the momentum and would only need to win their game-in-hand to be level with Arsenal, provided they defeat them on Sunday.

It is too early to say that Guardiola’s team will come out on top, but the evidence to make that claim is pretty strong.

Man City have beaten Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea in their three most recent matches, scoring a combined nine goals and conceding zero. That record speaks for itself!
