We’ve rated every Manchester City player after a dominant second-half display saw Pep Guardiola’s side beat Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester City player ratings vs Chelsea
Gianluigi Donnarumma – 7
Faced consistent pressure from Chelsea in the starting minutes. Was almost indecisive against Joao Pedro, but made the right choice in the end to sweep the ball. Smart save from Cole Palmer’s free kick and made good efforts to preserve the clean sheet.
Matheus Nunes – 6
Clumsy in the first half by letting in many runs down the right. Neto enjoyed a nutmeg off the Portuguese international but couldn’t convert the chance. Did make a comeback and defended the line well after the first half.
Abdukodir Khusanov – 6
A quiet game by his own standards. He was alert when needed, making some important contributions like keeping Pedro out earlier in the first half.
Marc Guehi – 8
Scored the goal with the composure of a striker. Guehi was detrimental in the backline when the game was still 0-0, making important blocks and intercepting line-breaking passes.
Nico O’Reilly – 8
Another aggressive display by the 21-year-old. Despite Man City’s quietness in the starting minutes, O’Reilly was consistently a threat when the Sky Blues were in the opponent’s half. The run against Rayan Cherki’s cross meant he reached the ball before Erling Haaland.
Rodri – 6
Not a headline performer today. The Ballon d’Or winner even had an ankle problem in the second half, but the discomfort wasn’t enough to ring any alarm bells.
Bernardo Silva – 6.5
Missed a great chance from O’Reilly in the first-half. However, to the midfielder’s defence, the Portuguese midfielder did manage to set the ball on target amidst the chaos. Made the second-highest tackles in the game (4) but it wasn’t his best performance either.
Antoine Semenyo – 5.5
A quieter one for Semenyo as Jeremy Doku was the one who shone on the flanks. Picked up his seventh yellow card today, but also made a great effort after a diagonal move across the box, which was deflected by Wesley Fofana.
Rayan Cherki – 9
Made two goals possible with direct assists. Was a consistent threat in Chelsea’s half. The first cross to O’Reilly was well delivered, and the short corner he received from Doku resulted in a smooth run through the Blues defenders that finally ended up in the back of the net after a pass to Guehi.
Jeremy Doku – 8
Another consistent threat for Chelsea today. Doku was frequent when it came to first-half chances down the left. The combination play with O’Reilly was a wonderful chance, only to end up in the hands of Robert Sanchez. The second half was even better as he caught Moises Caicedo off guard, scoring the third of the match.
Erling Haaland – 6
Not the striker fans expected after his hat-trick against Liverpool. Had a shot on goal after the break but was denied by Jorrel Hato. The threat was there, but it didn’t lead to any conversions as Chelsea did a great job of overloading the centre on multiple occasions.
