Manchester City have entered the race to sign an in-demand centre forward who has made a strong start to life in Germany.

The striker position is one where Manchester City do not have all that many options and it is not hard to see why.

Erling Haaland is always going to be a first choice pick, which is why Julian Alvarez left the club two years ago to join Atletico Madrid.

These days, the Citizens have Omar Marmoush as a backup option, but the Egyptian has only scored one Premier League goal this season.

On top of this, Marmoush is not going to be a player for the future once Haaland has departed, considering he is older than the Norwegian.

Man City want to sign Christian Kofane

Team Talk have reported that Man City are looking to add another attacking option to their squad by signing Christian Kofane from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Cameroonian frontman has already bagged seven goals and eight assists this season and he has regularly made appearances, either by starting or coming off the bench.

Interestingly, one of these assists was recorded against Man City, when Kasper Hjulmand’s team defeated the Carabao Cup winners in the Champions League earlier this season.

City have made contact with Bayer Leverkusen regarding the young talent, but face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool.

Plus, there are even more clubs monitoring Kofane’s progress, including Barcelona and Bayern Munich, among others.

Christian Kofane’s potential pathway at Man City

Despite making 40 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, Kofane has not started a large number of games. In fact, he has only made 10 starts in the Bundesliga this season.

Therefore, it is unlikely that he would walk straight into Man City’s first-team, especially if Marmoush stays beyond this summer.

Should City sign the 19-year-old, he could be sent out on loan and this might actually make a move even more likely.

The Sky Blues could make a deal with Bayer Leverkusen that Kofane would re-join them for a season, before truly making the Etihad Stadium his home.

Man City have to convince Kofane to move

Kofane is yet to complete his first full season at the German outfit, so he may be reluctant to be on the move again so soon. Especially since the attacker has not yet established himself as a regular starter there.

Moving to Man City could be viewed as the right step in the future, but one which is not right for the here and now.

After all, Haaland is unlikely to leave any time soon, which means no striker is getting a real chance outside cup competitions.

Pep Guardiola’s team have to provide Kofane with some incentive that joining them will aid his development, rather than becoming a hindrance.

Therefore, agreeing a deal which could see him return to Germany on loan really does feel like the best option.
