  • City will play at Wembley again after beating Liverpool
  • They recently won the Carabao Cup final at the national stadium

Manchester City have booked their place at Wembley Stadium for a second time this season, after battering Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

Only two weeks ago, Man City defeated Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final and astonishingly, they have not lost an FA Cup match at home or away since February 2018.

Of course, City have not always been successful in English football’s oldest competition, having lost in the final two years running.

Still, the Citizens have done tremendously well to keep on making the latter stages of cup competitions, which has prompted praise from Erling Haaland.

Erling Haaland hails Man City’s record in cup competitions

Haaland was the hero against Liverpool, scoring three goals which helped his team to a decisive victory.

The striker is happy to be back in form and he is particularly pleased by the fact Man City have continued their mind-blowing domestic cup record.

Haaland told BBC Sport: “It’s been a while now, I didn’t score a hat-trick for [Manchester City], so I think it was about time. And of course, it’s nice to do against Liverpool.”

“It’s actually ridiculous when you look at the stats, how many times we’ve been at Wembley [23 under Pep Guardiola]. It’s incredible. It is so consistent and I think this is something that is more crazy than you actually think because 23 times in 10 years is ridiculous.”

Man City need to finish the job this time around

While reaching cup semis and finals looks good on paper, the only thing that truly matters is winning trophies.

Man City may have got the job done against Arsenal last month, but their recent record specifically in the FA Cup leaves room for improvement.

The Citizens were shocked by Crystal Palace last season and Manchester United got the better of them one year earlier.

This run of defeats late in the competition must come to an end and Haaland will be expected to lead the fight after his terrific showing on Saturday.
