- Guardiola and City chasing a historic eighth FA semi-final in a row
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has praised his side’s exceptional FA Cup record ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final against Liverpool.
Man City host Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium, looking to make it three wins from three this season after winning both Premier League meetings already.
Victory would secure City a record-breaking eighth FA Cup semi-final in a row, a milestone Guardiola is keen to reach.
The hosts will be firm favourites to beat Liverpool on Saturday, with Opta’s Supercomputer predicting City will beat Liverpool.
Pep Guardiola praises Manchester City’s FA Cup record
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the weekend, Guardiola discussed his team’s incredible consistency in the FA Cup.
He said: “You can have a bad afternoon. It can Happen. That makes me proud.
“Seven semi-finals in a row. That is really, really good.”
Indeed, City have made the FA Cup semi-finals in each of the past seven seasons, lifting the trophy in 2019 and 2023.
They are also chasing a fourth consecutive final, having lost to Crystal Palace and rivals Manchester United in the last two seasons since their most recent triumph.
Guardiola pleased by Carabao Cup win but wants ‘prestigious’ FA Cup
Discussing his young side’s victory in last month’s Carbao Cup final against Arsenal, Guardiola was happy to lift the trophy, but admitted the FA Cup means far more to him.
He said: “It’s nice winning the [Carabao Cup] title. It’s not the most prestigious one, but the fact is, it’s a title, especially playing against the best team in Europe so far [Arsenal].
“Yeah it was a good test, but like always the good teams when they finish one they think “next one”
“And tomorrow we have the chance to reach an incredible milestone of eight semi-finals in a row.
“It’s never happened, we have been in seven semi-finals in a row – four finals, three semi-finals in the FA Cup. It’s a prestigious competition and one of the toughest.”
