- Josko Gvardiol has made 23 appearances this season
- He has been injured since January
- Man City have received an update on the defender
Manchester City have learned when Josko Gvardiol is expected to make a full recovery, after he suffered a broken tibia.
Although Manchester City have a host of centre-back options, they are still missing a player who was a regular starter for most of the season until his injury.
Josko Gvardiol was substituted off against Chelsea back in January after breaking his shinbone during a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
Since then, the Croat has not made an appearance for his club. However, it seems the end of his injury troubles are now in sight.
Josko Gvardiol’s Man City recovery is going well
According to Sportske Novosti, Gvardiol will be able to begin running again in 10 days, indicating the healing of his broken bone has been a success.
Based on usual estimates, the defender is likely to be ready for match action in mid-May. This means that if Man City reach the FA Cup final, Gvardiol could potentially be able to feature.
However, the 24-year-old is bound to be rusty after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Therefore, it could be that he is unable to start until closer to the end of the month.
Man City have cover in defence
Gvardiol will certainly be a useful player to have around again, but the need for his return is not urgent at this point in time.
Abdukdoir Khusanov is in fine form and Marc Guehi was added to Pep Guardiola’s squad in January.
Then at left-back, Rayan Ait-Nouri has been playing well, while Nico O’Reilly stole the show in the Carabao Cup final.
Therefore, while the news about Gvardiol is positive, Man City should be able to cope without him for now. Ultimately, there are more pressing needs in other areas.
