  • Gareth Barry has played the winner stays on game
  • Three Manchester City players were included
  • Barry named one of them as his ultimate winner

Gareth Barry has attempted the winner stays on challenge and he has picked a Manchester City legend as his top player.

During his many years in the Premier League, Gareth Barry played alongside some fine players, beginning with his 11-year spell at Aston Villa.

This was followed by five years at Manchester City, where the midfielder won his first Premier League title.

Barry was part of an excellent team during his time at the Etihad Stadium and there was one player who has clearly left a lasting impression on the ex-England international.

David Silva wins Gareth Barry’s winner stays on challenge

Daily Mail Sport recently asked Barry to take part in a winner stays on game, where he must pick his ultimate Premier League player in a knockout style format.

The first Man City player mentioned was Yaya Toure and Barry chose him over Roy Keane, as well as 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.

David Beckham eventually knocked Toure off the top spot, but he was replaced by David Silva. The Spaniard went on to become Barry’s winner, even beating Kevin De Bruyne.

Silva kept getting better after Barry’s Man City departure

Since Barry left Man City in 2014, he actually missed a number of Silva’s years at the Etihad Stadium, but clearly he never stopped watching.

Silva was a truly brilliant player, winning four Premier League titles, five League Cups and two FA Cups, as well as a World Cup and two Euros with Spain.

On top of this, Silva was named in the Premier League team of the year twice and he became Man City’s player of the year after the 2016/17 season.
