  • Manchester City will face Arsenal in the League Cup final on Sunday
  • Three players have stood out for their goalscoring form in the competition
  • However, none of them are guaranteed a place in the starting lineup.

It would be assumed that Manchester City would look to their top scorers in the Carabao Cup final, but none of them have been regular starters throughout the season.

Manchester City will need to be strong in defence against Arsenal, but causing problems of their own is just as important.

Here is a list of the three Man City players who have been the biggest threat in front of goal in the Carabao Cup this season.

Rayan Cherki is the joint third Carabao Cup top scorer

Recently, Rayan Cherki has had to spend a lot of time on the bench, but he was back in the team to face Real Madrid in midweek. The winger played quite well on the night, just as he has done in the Carabao Cup this season.

Cherki was unable to face Huddersfield Town in the third round due to a thigh injury, but he has since registered three goals and one assist in four League Cup appearances.

The semi-final second leg fixture against Newcastle is the only one where the Frenchman has played and failed to score, but in fairness, he was only on the pitch for 18 minutes.

Omar Marmoush has scored the same number of goals

Along with Cherki, Omar Marmoush also missed out on the Huddersfield game due to an injury and additionally, he was unable to play a further two matches due to AFCON.

Despite this, the Egyptian has made good use of his time in the first-team, scoring three goals in two appearances.

Marmoush was particularly effective in the second leg against Newcastle, scoring twice to land his team a spot in the final.

Savinho has been on target for Man City

While Savinho has only scored three goals all season, two of these have been netted in the Carabao Cup.

The 21-year-old has scored in each of his two appearances in the competition, which came against Huddersfield and Brentford.

However, he was unable to play either of the semi-final legs against the Magpies due to injury. Added to this, Savinho has not featured in Man City’s two most recent matches.

Man City’s top scorers might not even start the Carabao Cup final

Many Man City fans have been calling for Cherki to start and he was finally back in the team against Real Madrid. Although Pep Guardiola has said his team are less balanced when Cherki plays, which means he might not be handed two successive starts.

Similarly, Marmoush has become a popular figure at Man City, but he tends to be in and out of the first-team.

Savinho’s situation is pretty much the same. Every now and then he gets a game, but he is still very much a rotation player at this point in time.

Therefore, even though these players have been the stars for Man City, they might not actually be in the starting lineup for the Carabao Cup final.

Still, James Trafford is going to start for City and he is not usually first choice. Perhaps this is an indication that Guardiola will reward the players who have delivered for his team throughout the tournament.
