Manchester City are looking to appoint Enzo Maresca when Pep Guardiola departs, but there is still a conversation to be had with the current manager.

Pep Guardiola’s days at Manchester City are numbered, but there is still uncertainty about when he will call it a day.

The Catalan boss has had 10 brilliant years at the club, but this season is shaping up to be another disappointment, with a Premier League title win now highly unlikely.

However, City still have the opportunity to win two trophies and Guardiola has a year remaining on his contract.

Therefore, there is no guarantee that he will walk away from the Etihad Stadium this summer, complicating the club’s latest plans.

Manchester City are looking to appoint Enzo Maresca

According to Fabrizio Romano, Man City have identified Enzo Maresca as the right candidate to become their next manager.

Maresca’s camp are aware of the interest, but the timeline on a new appointment remains unknown, as Guardiola’s future is still up in the air.

Man City would be prepared to hire Marseca at the end of the season, but this is only if Guardiola decides the time is right to bid his club farewell. Ultimately, the decision is up to him.

Maresca has been a success since departing Man City

In just one season as the Man City under-21s coach, Maresca won the Premier League 2 title and he has had an eye for silverware ever since.

The manager lifted the Championship trophy at Leicester City and last season he won the Conference League and Club World Cup with Chelsea.

Maresca knows Man City well, as he also briefly worked as Guardiola’s assistant in 2022, so he would be a solid option for the role.
