Fernandinho has offered some words of encouragement to Manchester City before the club’s huge clash against Real Madrid.
Manchester City need all the help they can get and some words of wisdom from Fernandinho will certainly be nice to hear heading into the game.
The Brazilian won 12 trophies during his time at the Etihad Stadium, so he knows what it takes to recover from setbacks and come out on top.
Fernandinho’s final appearance was a 3-2 comeback against Aston Villa which saw Man City win the Premier League on the last day of the season, which says it all really.
Fernandinho instructs Manchester City to believe
The message from Fernandinho is quite simple and that is for Manchester City’s squad to believe that a comeback is possible.
He told Man City: “City can do it. Obviously it’s a tough task after last week, but the most important thing is to believe. You have to believe from the first moment until the end.
“Sometimes someone is going to take some wrong decisions but we have to focus on the next action and keep going.
“This is what playing for City is about and the players have the opportunity to make history tonight.”
The ex-midfielder continued: “Physically it is difficult but that mentality to keep going, never give up and try to push everyone on the pitch means we will believe until the end.
“Most of the comebacks that I was a part of, the principle thing was to believe and we have to do that tonight.”
According to Fernandinho, securing a victory is not just about the players, but also the fans and the way they back their team.
“It’s so important to have the stands playing with the team and create a good atmosphere,” he added.
“It makes the opponent understand they are not going to have an easy life and I think together we can make it.”
Man City have players who have got out of tough situations before
Fernandinho may not be dusting off his boots and taking to the Etihad Stadium pitch tonight, but Man City still have senior players who can make the difference.
The former club captain believes they will be important not just to perform at a high standard, but to help guide the younger members of the squad.
“They understand the importance of the game and putting on a performance against one of the best teams in the world,” he continued.
“They’ve got the experience, they’ve been on this stage before and they’re going to be such an important part of the team to guide the young guys, push them on.
“I never like to say to motivate them, but to give them some extra energy to keep going.”
