Savinho reels in the praise after ‘incredible’ Manchester City performance

Savinho has been the recipient of high praise from two Manchester City figures after his goalscoring display against Newcastle United.

What a night Savinho had as Manchester City defeated Newcastle in the FA Cup fifth round and oh boy did he need it!

The Brazilian was not winning any popularity contests last Wednesday when he failed to score what would have been the decider with the last touch of the game against Nottingham Forest.

However, Savinho was really positive during Man City’s win over the Magpies and he even landed on the scoresheet for the first time since December.

It was a very good night for the winger and he was deservedly named by Joe Hart as the TNT Sports player of the match.

John Stones heaps praise on Savinho after ‘incredible’ performance for Man City

Savinho delivered his best football at St James’ Park, demonstrating exactly how good he can be under Pep Guardiola.

John Stones was certainly impressed by what he saw from the 21-year-old, making note of his impressive speed and ability to create chances.

The defender told TNT Sports: “How direct he [Savinho] was, his pace just to touch it past you and get up to full speed is incredible!  How direct he was, kept going, crosses, the chances. I’m so pleased for him.

“It’s difficult coming back from injury; he came on in the last game and made an impact and same again today.”

Pep Guardiola calls Savinho ‘unstoppable’

If the praise from Stones was not enough, Guardiola has also spoken about Savinho’s display. The manager has spoken very highly of the talented speedster referring to him as ‘unstoppable’ and a future ‘top class’ player.

He said: “At that age, in the one-against-one, he is unstoppable. When we finish the final product, he will be a top, top class player.”

Guardiola’s comment shows he sees Savinho as a player who will keep improving as the years pass by. He may not be the finished product yet, but his potential is there for all to see.

Therefore, it makes a lot of sense that City have refused to sell the youngster when Tottenham Hotspur came knocking last summer.
