Pep Guardiola has picked up a two-match ban for receiving his sixth yellow card of the season and his reaction is comedy gold.
There is no manager in football quite like Pep Guardiola, in terms of his managerial brilliance, as well as his emotional antics on the touchline.
The Manchester City boss was running wild during his team’s latest victory over Newcastle and he even squared up to Lewis Smith, who was acting as the fourth official.
This was in response to a pull from Kieran Trippier on Jeremy Doku, which Guardiola believed to be a foul.
As a result of this outburst, he was cautioned by the referee. As this is the sixth time such an incident has occurred during the current campaign, Guardiola is now banned from the dugout for two matches.
Pep Guardiola claims he is ‘proud’ to receive a touchline ban
Guardiola has reacted to his latest booking in hilarious fashion, claiming he is ‘proud’ of his terrible record of ill discipline.
The manager has also indicated that Man City are not refereed in the same way as other teams, since Trippier was not penalised for fouling Doku.
Speaking after the game, Guardiola explained: “There are some actions that are difficult for me to understand. Because the foul on Jeremy [Doku] is too clear. I will not be silent! It’s many, many times it’s happened.
“We have all the records in this country, I’m sorry for referees. All the records! We have also the manager with the most yellow cards, I have that record. I’m so proud of that!
“It’s too clear! There are actions that are not understandable. You can make a mistake in one action… When Jeremy dribbles Trippier and he’s pulled from behind, everywhere it’s a foul except here.”
Guardiola added: Okay, it is what it is. That’s why it’s well-deserved, the yellow card. We have a two-game ban, we’ll be on holidays and the team will continue.”
Guardiola will not miss the Carabao Cup final
Even though Guardiola has once again been banned from the touchline for receiving three bookings, he will still be allowed to take up his usual position during the Carabao Cup final.
This is because the competition is viewed as a standalone tournament, unlike the Premier League and FA Cup.
Man City will be relieved by this as it means their boss can still lead from the sidelines and display his unique passion and enthusiasm against Arsenal.
