Manchester City still have the opportunity to win four trophies this season, but his latest comments will not fill the club’s supporters with much confidence.
The Premier League is Arsenal’s to lose after Manchester City failed to defeat Nottingham Forest last Wednesday.
Although the hosts were the more dominant side, Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson delivered two spectacular moments which were enough to win their team a point.
Man City are still involved in three other competitions, but it seems Pep Guardiola is not full of confidence based on what he has seen from the Sky Blues this season.
Pep Guardiola says Manchester City are not a complete team
City have had to do some rebuilding over the past few years due to the departures of key players, including the likes of David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne.
Although they remain a strong side, Guardiola does not believe his team are complete, which could affect their chances of winning silverware.
However, the manager believes there is still time to improve and make a last-minute push for trophies before the season concludes.
Guardiola said in his press conference: “We did much, much more than them [Nottingham Forest] in everything. But the game is like that, we could not win. Expected goals 2.15, 0.7xG chances conceded. We draw. That is football.
“We have to defend better in some departments. Still, still, still, still we are not a complete team to compete, to be solid. That is the reality. But we are in the process of many changes.
“If we can learn quicker and still there’s nothing lost, we can arrive in the last month [of the season] with the chances [of winning competitions].”
He added: “I’m pretty sure next season will be better and the next season will be better. I don’t have doubts about that.”
Guardiola has dropped a hint about his Man City future
The fact Guardiola sees the potential for Man City to get stronger again indicates his commitment to sticking around long enough to ensure it happens.
There are obviously questions surrounding his future, considering he has little more than a year remaining on his contract, but surely he would want to end on a high.
Guardiola has not ruled out the possibility of winning trophies this season, but his comments point towards future successes and he is unlikely to walk away before these take place.
