Manchester City have suffered a setback in the Premier League after drawing 2-2 with Nottingham Forest and Matheus Nunes has detailed the mistake his team made.
Although Manchester City were expected to defeat Nottingham Forest, Pep Guardiola was clear that the visitors had quality in their team, so complacency would be unwise.
However, fast forward to Wednesday night and Man City have missed out on two vital points which could have seen them keep the pressure on Arsenal.
Guardiola will not have enjoyed what he saw from his team and Matheus Nunes believes he knows what went wrong for the hosts.
Matheus Nunes says Man City became too relaxed
Man City had control against Nottingham Forest for much of the game, but this did not stop the Premier League strugglers from coming up with two second half goals.
Matheus Nunes has been complimentary of their scores, but he has been critical of his own team for becoming ‘relaxed’ and allowing Forest too much space.
Nunes told BBC Sport Manchester: “Fantastic goals because we gave them space. If you don’t give them space, they have to decide under pressure.
“We have to be more focused, especially when we are winning because we have to control the game and not relax, and I think we relaxed a little bit after we scored.”
Nunes has not given up on Man City’s Premier League title aspirations
There is no question that Man City were not good enough on Wednesday night, but Nunes is still confident that Arsenal are not out of sight yet.
He added: “For sure, we’re going to be ready [to play again] because we’re still in every competition with good chances to win everything.”
This throws things forward to Saturday, as Man City travel to Newcastle in a must-win FA Cup fifth round tie, before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League next Tuesday.
City will need to be much better in their upcoming matches, otherwise Nunes and his teammates might not have too much left to play for in a months’ time.
