Manchester City are in a good position to secure the signature of a young defender who currently plays his football in the French top flight.
Only Arsenal have a better defence than Manchester City this season, with Pep Guardiola’s team conceding 25 goals in 28 matches.
City’s defensive displays have been particularly encouraging in recent weeks, with three clean sheets kept in their past four matches across all competitions.
Most recently, the Citizens managed to prevent Leeds United from scoring, which protected a 1-0 lead gained thanks to a close range strike from Antoine Semenyo.
Man City have a good chance of signing Samson Baidoo
With just four months to go until the summer transfer window opens, Man City are considering various options to keep their defence up to scratch.
According to Sportsboom, Samson Baidoo is one player who the club believe could become useful in the future, due to his blend of physical dominance and technical skill.
Man City and Liverpool are said to be leading the pursuit to sign the 21-year-old, but only one team will be able to secure a deal.
There has also been interest from clubs across Europe, including Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan, even though the centre-back is currently out with a hamstring injury.
Lens do not want to sell Baidoo
RC Lens have officially labelled Baidoo as ‘not for sale’, but in reality, the French club are preparing to receive club record bids for the player.
It is thought Lens will demand a fee of around £50m for the defender, although if they qualify for the Champions League, keeping him for another season could see that price rise later on.
However, aggressive bids from European heavyweights and the player’s own desire to move on to the next level make a summer move fairly likely.
Liverpool would be keen on integrating Baidoo into Arne Slot’s squad as soon as possible, but Man City would be happy to loan him back to Lens for a season. This willingness to be flexible could ultimately put the Sky Blues in prime position to win this intriguing transfer race.
