Manchester City defeat Leeds United thanks to Antoine Semenyo strike

Manchester City have secured another important victory in the Premier League after a single goal which came in the first half.

As per usual, Manchester City needed a win today and that is exactly what they delivered at Elland Road.

It was always going to be a difficult fixture for the Sky Blues, with Leeds proving to be a difficult opponent in recent weeks.

Worse still, Erling Haaland was ruled out of the game with an injury, which left City without their biggest goal threat.

Despite this, Pep Guardiola’s team have got the job done and are now within just two points of Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Antoine Semenyo won Man City the match

Leeds made a strong start on Saturday evening and should really have taken the lead after Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed a big chance in front of goal. The striker also came close to an opener after 17 minutes, but his low shot drifted narrowly wide.

Man City warmed into the game and had their first real chance after 40 minutes when Nico O’Reilly forced Karl Darlow into a save with a headed effort. Minutes later, the visitors did take the lead after Antoine Semenyo received Rayan Cherki’s grounded cross and tucked the ball home on the stroke of half time.

In the second half, it was actually the away team who looked more like doubling their lead for the most part, although Leeds did have dangerous moments in the final 10 minutes. However, neither side was able to find the net, handing City another narrow victory.

Man City have piled the pressure back on Arsenal

The Premier League table is looking very competitive again at the top of the Premier League table, with City and Arsenal having now played an equal number of matches.

Mikel Arteta’s men have the two-point lead, but beating Chelsea on Sunday is essential to prevent City from gaining an advantage.

All eyes will certainly be on the Emirates Stadium to watch the action unfold as the Blues look to cause problems for the team at the top of the table.
