Manchester City could look to break their transfer record this summer in hopes of signing a Champions League winning midfielder.
There is every chance that Manchester City could end up having an exceptional season with four different trophies still available to be won.
However, Pep Guardiola’s team are trailing Arsenal in the Premier League and did not look overly convincing in the league phase of the Champions League.
Therefore, City will be looking to strengthen in the summer transfer window in order to reassert the dominance they once held in their country.
Pep Guardiola wants Manchester City to sign Joao Neves
According to Sports Boom, Joao Neves is a player to have caught the interest of Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola describing him as the ‘perfect signing’.
The club’s scouts have compiled an extensive dossier focusing on his elite playmaking and ball-distribution skills, showing just how serious their interest is in the player.
However, Liverpool view Neves as the ‘ideal fix’, while Real Madrid are also weighing up a bid for the 21-year-old.
As well as this, Luis Enrique views Neves as irreplaceable and PSG have no desire to let him leave the club. The only chance Man City have of securing his signature is placing a bid in the region of £140m and even then, there is no guarantee the Ligue 1 team will be persuaded.
Neves is an important player for PSG
Last season saw Neves appear in all of PSG’s 17 Champions League fixtures, starting all except their opening game against Girona.
The midfielder made 59 appearances in total for his club, registering seven goals and 10 assists in the process.
Neves has seen less time on the pitch this season due to his injuries, but he remains an important player to PSG, so a summer sale is unlikely unless a massive bid is placed.
