Manchester City are considering whether to place an offer for a young defender who is making quite the impression in Serie A.
Manchester City could look to sign some new defenders this summer and based on reports, it seems the club’s preference is to bring in younger players with room for development.
It was revealed last week that Man City are working to sign Ruud Nijstad, a centre-back currently playing his football in the Netherlands.
Another rumour has linked Wesley with Man City, with the 22-year-old wing-back impressing during his first season in Europe.
Manchester City are considering Atalanta’s Honest Ahanor
According to Caught Offside, Honest Ahanor is another defender to have caught Man City’s eye and the club’s scouts have been watching him in recent months.
City are believed to be evaluating a bid in the region of £30m, recognising how much the Atalanta starlet could offer in the future.
However, the Serie A club currently view Ahanor as ‘untouchable’ and would like to keep him for at least another season.
Manchester City are not the only club interested in Ahanor
Getting Atalanta to sell Ahanor is only one piece of the puzzle for Man City, as they face competition from both Arsenal and Chelsea to sign the Nigerian.
The Gunners also recognise the player’s long-term upside, while Chelsea could look to secure a deal which would involve an immediate loan spell away from London.
If Man City do want Ahanor, it would be better to place a bid sooner rather than later, as his price will only continue to rise with continued Serie A exposure. Therefore, a July bid could be on the cards.
