Sergio Aguero has revealed what three things have impressed him the most about Abdukodir Khusanov at Manchester City.
Abdukodir Khusanov joined Manchester City in January last year and he got off to a horrific start in the Premier League.
The defender made an error which led to a goal just minutes into his debut against Chelsea and was blasted by experts.
Even Pep Guardiola admitted that Khusanov had not made the best start to life at Man City, but things have changed a lot over the course of the year.
The 21-year-old has become much more reliable and Guadriola clearly trusts him, as seen by the 23 appearances he has been awarded this season.
Sergio Aguero reveals what he likes about Abdukodir Khusanov
It is clear Khusanov has earned the respect of those who once doubted him and he has even been praised by some big names, the latest of whom is Serigo Aguero.
The former Manchester City striker has been impressed by Khusanov’s strength, pace and his ability to win duels.
Aguero told City Xtra on behalf of Stake: “He [Khusanov] has had very good games this year. He went through a normal adaptation process and now we can see the result.
“He is strong, very fast and wins duels. He is only 22, so that means City has a great defender for many years.”
Despite Khasanov’s improvement at Man City, there have still been occasions when he has been left on the bench.
However, Aguero does not believe this should be viewed as something negative. Instead it shows just how much depth there is in Guardiola’s squad.
“The good thing for a team like City, which always wants to be a contender in every competition it plays in, is that it has options in different positions,” Aguero continued.
“In that sense, I understand that this will be evaluated over time. The recent injuries to several players in the defence at the same time show that it is very important to have these options available.”
Khusanov is having a good run of games at Man City
Khusanov missed multiple matches in the latter stages of last year due to an ankle injury and this was followed by a number of Premier League fixtures which he spent on the bench.
However, the man from Uzbekistan has featured in Man City’s past 14 matches across all competitions, which shows how important he has become.
With Khusanov still only 21, it will be interesting to watch him develop over time as he seeks to become one of the Premier League’s top defenders.
