Pep Guardiola delivers Manchester City injury update ahead of Newcastle fixture

Manchester City are taking on Newcastle United on Saturday and Pep Guardiola has both good and bad team news to share ahead of the game.

Manchester City will lock horns with Newcastle in the Premier League in what is quite simply a must-win game.

Arsenal dropped points in a midweek shock against Wolves and a victory for City would close the gap between the sides to two points.

The hosts will have plenty of motivation to get a result and things are about to get even better due to the return of a player who has spent weeks on the sidelines.

Savinho is fit to play for Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has revealed in his pre-match press conference that Savinho is available to face Newcastle and he is likely to be named in the matchday squad.

The Brazilian winger has been out for six weeks with a thigh injury, but he took part in his team’s training sessions this week.

However, Jeremey Doku is not yet ready to play competitive football and has remained out since he was substiutued off against Galatasaray in January.

Guardiola will be eager to utilise Savinho

Following City’s 2-0 victory of Salford in the FA Cup, Guardiola made it clear that his team need wingers and so Savinho’s return is a timely one.

The 21-year-old was linked with a move away from Manchester City last summer, but right now he is of great importance to his manager.

Savinho has a point to prove, as many of his appearances this season have been from off the bench. If he plays well against Newcastle, that could open the door to more regular matches in the starting lineup.
