Manchester City intending to keep Stones for next season

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will turn down any approaches from clubs for young central defender, John Stones this summer, according to the Telegraph.

Stones was really impressive at the start of the season but since picking up an injury a few months ago, he has found it tough to make his way back into the side.

Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi and January signing Aymeric Laporte are all now above him in the pecking order as he has started just two games since the turn of the year.

He has also been out injured over the course of the last month, having been ruled out with an adductor injury to halt his progress at the Premier League champions.

The young defender still has four years left to run on his current deal and is certainly in the club’s plans as they look to take their game to the next level.

Stones has been first choice for England for some time now but, if he isn’t playing for City between now and the end of the season, it leaves Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate with a difficult decision.

matchday.
