Kompany to lift the trophy if City win the title

Manchester City club captain Vincent Kompany will lift the Premier League trophy if the club do go on to win the title this season, despite not being a first-team regular, according to the Manchester Evening News.

He has once again this season struggled with a number of injuries and has started just 10 games in all competitions across the campaign in another frustrating year for the Belgian.

He has returned to full fitness in recent weeks but there is plenty of competition at centre back and he now faces an uphill task to win his place back in the side.

With Kompany being sidelined for so much of the season both David Silva and Fernandinho have worn the armband, but the Belgian is the man that is set to lift the trophy at end of the season.

City have the titles in their sights now as they reach the final months of the season.

The City boss Pep Guardiola remains confident that his team will not be complacent in the run in.

We have to wait for Vincent to lift the titles. If Vincent doesn’t lift the titles, we will have good memories for ourselves. We cannot deny we have enjoyed these six, seven months a lot. But to be admired, to be loved, to get credit for what we have done, you have to lift the titles.

matchday.
