City to open contract talks with Raheem Sterling

Manchester City are set to open talks with Raheem Sterling over a new contract, according to Sky sources.

The England international has been in scintillating form for the Citizens this season, scoring 13 times in 19 appearances across all competitions.

The 22-year old winger still has over two-and-a-half years on his current deal, but the club are keen to tie him down to a new long-term contract, however it is not known when negotiations are expected to begin.

Sterling joined City from Liverpool in July 2015 in a deal worth up to £49million, and has scored 34 goals in 113 appearances for the club, including a 96th-minute winner against Southampton on Wednesday.

City currently sit top of the Premier League table, eight points clear of rivals Manchester United in second, having only dropped two points all season, drawing with Everton in late August.

The Sky Blues welcome West Ham to the Etihad on Sunday.

matchday.
