City target Bertrand could leave in January
Manchester City’s interest in Southampton full-back Ryan Bertrand has been well documented for some time now.
Pep Guardiola was reportedly keen to sign the defender in the summer transfer window but opted against moving for a fourth full-back. Southampton, too, were adamant that no key players would leave prior to the 2017/18 season.
However, according to the Mirror, the Saints are contemplating a sale in January, should a big offer come in, and City are said to have Bertrand “high” on their “wanted list”.
Bertrand has experienced a rather indifferent season so far. Saints are currently sitting in mid-table obscurity and there hasn’t been a great deal to shout about.
However, Bertrand’s experience and versatility is surely an attractive proposition to potential suitors, and it looks as though he may leave the south coast in the near future.
The Mirror claim that Manchester United defender Luke Shaw wants to go back to Southampton, which would surely open the door for Bertrand to leave if a sizable fee is put on the table.
City are in need of a new left-back following Benjamin Mendy’s long-term injury. Danilo is capable of playing there, but central midfielder Fabian Delph has been starting on the left in recent times.
